Original gold leaf frame and cut out border with floral, pinwheel, and feather motif including pair of birds in the center of each side. Ink and water color wash with colors of blue and red in flags and gunports set on black glazed paper background. Signed in lower left waves “B V Hoffman”. Circa 1840. Exhibited at the Gallery of National Portraiture and Historic Scenes, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 1926. 23" x 28". sight. 18" x 23.5".
