Wool and silk worked on linen ground. This rare form is signed and dated "Lydia Hoopes 3 of 2 month 1771." Lydia (1755-1836) was the daughter of Quakers John and Christina Reynolds Hoopes of Goshenville, Chester County, Pennsylvania. A related piece may be seen on the cover of "Historic Needlework of Pennsylvania" by Margaret B. Schiffer.
