Lucien Simon (French, 1861-1945), Place au Beurre, Quimper, Brittany; Oil on canvas, 22 x 32 inches; Signed lower left. This exceptional student of Bouguereau and Robert-Fleury exhibited regularly in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Francais and the Salon de la Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts as well as at London's Royal Academy. Lucien Simon received many awards and medals including the Grand Prix of the Paris International Exposition and, in 1900, was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor for his services to art. We are pleased to offer an exceptional example from Simon's middle period. In this panoramic yet intimate view, Simon shows us the serene rhythms of provincial life in turn-of-the-century Brittany.
