HECTOR, A classic British steam tug whose career specialized in assisting the great Ocean Liners of the early 20th century maneuver the harbor of Southampton, England. This vessel was part of the Southampton, Isle of Wight and South of England Royal Mail Steam Packet Company, and was built in 1903. HECTOR's registered dimensions were 130' in length, 382 tons, 1,400 i.h.p. The large, twin-screw tug was provided with a small saloon for passengers and a smaller saloon for the ladies, while on deck a number of buoyant seats were set out to give some degree of comfort to the passengers on deck. There was a small hold forward and a heavy derrick on the mast to handle baggage. The solid wood model is constructed via laminated waterline lifts, with a solid superstructure and pilot house. It shows all appropriate furniture, deck gear, and gold-plated metal fittings. The deck planking is drawn-on, with hand-painted windows and ruled-on doors and paneling.
