A recently discovered and exceptional Shaker Meeting House Bench from Hancock, Massachusetts, ca. 1820.Beautifully constructed of pine and retaining the original dry red-painted finish. Recently found in a barn in Columbia County, New York. Ht. 17", L. 9'1-1/2", D. 9-3/4". A related example, altered with an added back, formerly in the collection of Faith and Edward Deming Andrews and now in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, is illustrated in Sprigg, Shaker Design, fig. 38.
