Anonymous silk embroidered picture of 'Cornelia, Mother of the Gracchi', after a 1785 painting by Angelica Kauffman. The scene depicts second century Roman, widowed Cornelia visiting with a friend who is showing her jewels and asks, 'Where are your jewels?' Cornelia points to her children and replies, 'These are my jewels'. Her sons grew to be famous Roman leaders and social reformers. Silk, watercolor, and gold foil on silk; 20-3/8"x 22-3/8".
