Following Bonaparte's expedition to Syria and Egypt in 1798-1801 and fueled in England by the arrival of Vivant Denon's book, Voyages dans la Brasse et Haute Egypte in 1802, the Neo-Egyptian style had a burst of popularity. This superb diminutive English Regency cabinet dates circa 1810. It is constructed of the most wonderful close grained "plum pudding" mahogany, inlaid with ebony stringing and Egyptian brass heads and feet which retain their original fire gilt. The long drawer has a baize covered slide-back writing surface.
Measurements: 31-1/2" (w), 20-1/2" (d), 53-3/4" (h)
