Carved and Painted - probably North Carolina, about 1830 H. 32 inches, W. 48-1/2 inches, D. 21-1/2 inches We purchased this extraordinary chest from Jimmy Allen of Atlanta almost 20 years ago, advertised it in 'The Magazine Antiques,' January 1987, and sold it to a private collector. We present it once again, with pleasure, having acquired it from David Schorsch. It appears to relate to carved and painted architectural elements found in the Piedmont region of North Carolina including a paneled room now at the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Center.
