Established in 1988, Steve Turner Gallery has specialized in American art from the 1930s and 1940s with a special interest in artists who worked outside the main gallery system of New York, including African American artists, women artists, and artists from California and the West.
Beginning in September 2006, the gallery will introduce an active contemporary program with solo artist exhibitions and thematic group exhibitions to be mounted one after the other. In so doing, the gallery will build upon its history of featuring artists from underserved communities and emphasizing work that is not currently exhibited in Los Angeles. The gallery will feature Los Angeles artists who might already be exhibiting in New York (and elsewhere) but who lack gallery representation in Los Angeles and will also exhibit international artists who have yet to show locally. The gallery will also begin participating at various international contemporary art fairs.
