For more than twenty-five years, Hollis Taggart Galleries has specialized in fine American art, particular that of the Hudson River School, Impressionism and Modern movements. In twentieth-century art, our inventory includes the Ashcan group, Stieglitz Circle modernism, Abstract Expressionism and Minimalism. The gallery is located on the Upper East Side’s Museum Mile, just across the street from the Whitney Museum of American Art. In this ideal setting, the gallery is poised to continue its mission of presenting numerous museum-quality exhibitions, which have significantly contributed to the study of American art. Curated by the gallery’s directors with foremost scholars in the field, Hollis Taggart Galleries has organized critically acclaimed exhibitions. We have been pleased to collaborate with over thirty museums and institutions that have loaned works to these shows. Substantial scholarly catalogues accompany each exhibition; these publications are important sources of information and new research. Hollis Taggart Galleries is sponsoring two catalogues raisonnés. Recently completed, the two-volume catalogue raisonné of Pennsylvania Impressionist Daniel Garber includes over 1,500 entries. In the year 2000, the gallery launched the Frederick Carl Frieseke catalogue, which is currently being compiled by the artist’s grandson. In addition to providing the public with informative exhibitions, the gallery advises private collectors, corporations, and museums on acquisitions. The gallery also consults with clients to assist them in the development of their personal collections. Hollis Taggart Galleries welcomes all inquiries from collectors who may wish to sell or consign works of art or estates. The gallery can provide appraisal services as well.
