Polly Thayer (Starr), the only living artist represented in the exhibition A Studio of Her Own: Boston Women Artists 18701940 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, last fall was concurrently included in Vose Galleries first showing of a contemporary artist in nearly forty years. Remarkably, Thayer exhibited at Vose more than a half century ago during her mid-career and has since created some of her most compelling workstruthful, detailed oil compositions and nature studies. The recent Vose exhibition Poetry of Hand and Spirit encompassed the varied styles of Thayers artistic development over seven decades.
