Built in 1716-1718, the Warner House in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is a rare surviving example of an urban merchant's brick mansion. Occupied by the same extended family until 1930 when it became a house museum, the Colonial Revival dominated the interpretation until 1994. The Warner House: A Rich and Colorful History recounts the successful search since then for documents, furniture, and paintings to create a truer presentation of the house and its history. Thirteen essays by experts involved in the project cover such topics as the architecture, the objects, and the recent changes made to Warner House.
