Through August 19, 2006
In the Sconset Room of Harbor House Village
South Beach Street (Sea Street), Nantucket, MA
New York's Adelson Galleries will be a presence on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, for its third summer season. The gallery returns with two exhibitions. Wyeth Family, opening in July, includes paintings by N. C. Wyeth, Henriette, Andrew, and Jamie Wyeth. Among the selections are The Raspberry House (1988)(shown here) by Jamie Wyeth (b. 1946), a work of combined mediums on paper. One of a series of birdhouse portraits by the youngest of the three represented generations, the birdhouse seems to hover above the berry patch, creating a slightly unsettling air in the artist’s trademark style. Light Impressions: American Works on Paper, 18751925, opens August 8. Among the highlights is Childe Hassam's (1859-1935) A Favorite Corner (1892), a watercolor on paper, and a study for Hassam's most famous picture, The Room of Flowers (1894), which sold in 2001 to a private collector for $20 million. The gallery will also exhibit at the Nantucket Historical Association's August Antiques Show (August 3-6) at the Nantucket New School.
