This rare squirrel weathervane is one of only a few known examples. While weathervanes frequently took the form of animals, the majority feature farm or game animals such as roosters, horses, cows, stags, fish, and rabbits. This squirrel vane is even more unusual in that it appears to be a unique example that features the squirrel nibbling on a small ear of corn. The surface is in untouched condition, with verdigris and traces of gold leaf. |
