In 1922, André Domin and Marcel Genevriere founded the furniture firm Dominique on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore in Paris. Their modernist furniture was characterized by simplicity of design and luxurious materials. This pair (one is shown) is executed in solid Brazilian rosewood with nickeled bronze mounts and silk shagreen upholstery.
The classic combination of elements found in Dominiques designs was referenced by a critic in the French periodical Mobilier et Décoration (1934):
a piece of furniture has worked when it blends comfortably with earlier pieces.
