Tinglazed earthenware Owl
Height 7-1/2 ins. (19 cms.), c.1760, London
This moulded figure of an owl is shown realistically perched on a mound with its wings drooping forward. The whole figure has been dipped in a white tinglaze which has also coated the hollow part of the inside of the mound. The base ring has subsequently been wiped clean. The detailing suggests that this has been copied from porcelain or perhaps a bronze model. Two other figures of this type have been recorded.
