An Extraordinary Painted and Decorated York County, Pennsylvania Blanket Chest

Pine, circa 1850.

Beautifully painted in blue, red, yellow and green, depicting floral, heart and leaf motifs within sixteen recessed panels.

Height 24-1/2", Width 38", Depth 20"

Descended in the Sterner family. (Family homestead is now under water in Codorus State Park, southeast of Hanover.) This chest was purchased from Stephen Sterner, a great-grandson from McSherryston, Pennsylvania.
