Charles Sidney Raleigh (American, 1830-1925), Oil on canvas, depicting the start of the 1887 America's Cup Race between the New York Yacht Club's white-hull defender, Volunteer, and the Royal Clyde Yacht Club's black-hull challenger, Thistle. This painting was probably commissioned by Malcolm Forbes, syndicate financier, for a party celebrating the victory at Faneuil Hall, Boston.
