A First Period Worcester Porcelain Hexagonal Vase And Cover.

The vases are decorated in a pattern known as Dragon in Compartments. The origin is Chinese, a famille verte pattern from the Kangxi period. It was first used by Worcester around 1765-08 on teawares and on dessert wares from around 1770. A few large hexagonal vases such as this one were made around that time.

Reference: Worcester Porcelain 1751-90, The Zorensky Collection by Simon Spero & John Sandon, #198 for a pair of hexagonal vases with flaring mouths similarly decorated.

The Dictionary of Worcester Porcelain, Vol 1, 1751-1851, by John Sandon, page 360 for the shape which he dates 1768-70.

Circa 1768-1772.
