A Portrait Miniature Of A Brother & A Sister Hugging.

The miniature in a rectangular format depicts two children- a boy and girl, certainly brother and sister. sitting in front of a red curtain to their left rear with a stippled blue background to the right. The young girl, about five years old, sits on the boy's lap. The boy is around nine years old. She has her left arm around his neck. He wears a forest green jacket and she a white dress with white seed pearls sewn into it with a red ribbon sash around her waist. At her neck is a necklace of red beads.

In Scotland there was a tradition of placing portrait miniatures in albums and thus they are often of a different shape and with better colour that miniatures from other countries having been protected from direct light for so long.
