A Rare Pair Of Chinese Bronze Lion Dog Incense Burners.

The lions sit upon their haunches opposite each other, their tails spread outward and upwards with rich detailed whorls. They have bulging eyeballs, and their mouths are open to reveal two sets of fangs, teeth and a protruding tongue. Whiskers and hair tufts protrude from around their horned heads. They have hooved feet, scaly skin and upon their backs on an openwork cover a smaller similar sits; all on wood bases. One tail has old break.

Early 19th Century.
