A lush design of palmettes, leaves, flowers, and vines inspired by classical Persian carpets of the Safavid era spreads majestically across the deep blue ground of this extraordinary antique Khorassan. These lovely forms and their gentle coloration - using soft tans, cocoas, ivory, and pale green - are nicely accented by the contrast of the deep blue ground. The delicate arabesque vinescroll border continues the palette and design texture of the field on a slightly smaller scale, but unifying the entire carpet with a strong decorative emphasis.
