A Unique Figure of Jumbo the Elephant Yellowware with Rockingham decorated base. Jumbo spent the first 20 years of his life at the London Zoo. P.T. Barnum paid $10,000 for him, and Jumbo arrived in New York City in 1882 to join the circus. He was 12 feet tall and weighed approximately seven tons. He was the top attraction at Barnum's circus until his death in 1885. This figure has a rare mark of the Globe Pottery Co.
A short-lived mark, 1888 to 1901, Globe Pottery originated as Frederick, Shenkle, Allen Co. and merged with East Liverpool Potteries Co. in 1901. It was started again in 1907, but did not produce yellowware. Globe was known for their figural pieces.
