Political Stoneware Jug A ten gallon ovoid stoneware jug with cobalt decoration depictin Major General John Charles Fremont (1813-1890) on horseback smoking a pipe. The opposite side depicts a soldier with a drum flanked by a flask and a dog and inscribed "Fremont". Fremont was the first Republican presidential nominee in 1856, losing to james Buchanan. Maker Unknown. American, c. 1861 Ht. 21.75"
