Fine small kas, gum and poplar, circa 1740-1760. Similar kasten are known from the Oyster Bay, Long Island area. See Fales, Long Island Is My Nation (1976, p. 110. #130.) The kas has its original detachable ball and stretcher feet on which the case rests. Ht. 72", W. 54" (case), 66" (cornice); D. 16" (case), 22" (cornice).
