Julia Naden worked this sampler in 1837. Essentially a marking sampler, she practiced her alphabets and decorative bands, including a handsome Greek key pattern. A wonderful little turn of phrase make this simple sampler most attractive, "Piety and virtue are particularly graceful and becoming in all." Julia worked a thin undulating border to frame her work.

Worked in blue thread on tan linen this sampler is in very good condition. It has been conservation mounted in an oak frame.
