Kate Key practiced her alphabets in her marking sampler worked at St. Botolph's School, and the style of the sampler places it circa 1840. The red silk on crisp white linen is quite handsome and effective. One can assume that from its simplicity this might have been Kate's very first sampler made at a young age.

Worked in silk on linen, this sampler is in excellent condition. It has been conservation mounted into an oak frame.
