The Prince is facing right, wearing a Field Marshal's scarlet uniform with black, gold-embroidered collar, gold shoulder-knots, black stock and the Orders of the Golden Fleece suspended from a red ribbon about his neck, the badges of the Order of the Garter, of the French Order of the Saint Esprit, of the Prussian Order of the Black Eagle and another unidentified Order. The background is olive green. The miniature is set in a gold bezel within an oval metal locket.

This miniature is one of a group done over at least an eleven year period by order of the Prince. It was his favorite image of himself, and he requested it long after Lawrence had painted his portrait as King in 1821. He delighted in giving these enamels away as state presents and gifts, one of the latest going to little Princess Victoria in 1826. Her Majesty the Queen has eight of various sizes in her collection, dating from 1816 - 1821. The Prince Regent (1762-1830) later George IV, King of Great Britain and Ireland was possibly his country's most flamboyant ruler.

Henry Bone, R.A. (1755-1834), was the most important British enamelist of his time. He was successively enamel painter to King George III, King George IV and King William IV. His last exhibit at the Royal Academy in 1832 was of His Majesty, Charles X, King of France," Painted on His Majesty's Command".
