An unusual pair of portrait miniatures of sisters probably American by French Itinerant Artists. The two oval miniatures depict two girls painted dramatically against a dark background. The girls face each other, each wears a white dress with a distinctive frilly collar and puffed short sleeves with a high waist just below the bust. Their hair is cut short. The reverse of one case has the initials EP surrounded by leaves and a bird painted on the reverse of the glass. The other has this design rubbed off but the backing paper has the initials AP.
