Circa 1730. A fine and rare Flemish Baroque collectors cabinet, from the Saxe-Coburg collection, made in Antwerp in the early part of the Eighteenth Century. The cabinet is veneered throughout in tortoiseshell, the central top portico is supported by spirally twisted columns of Ebonised wood which lead to a ballustrade of gilt-bronze supports. There are three further arches below divided by twin spiral columns, and embellished by intricately cast gilt-bronze mounts. The interior of the cabinet is fitted with numerous drawers and secret compartments. The cabinet stands on a conforming base dating from the Late Nineteenth Century.
