Franklin Osgood's leather wrapped single-draw spyglass, as Rear Commodore of the New York Yacht Club, of typical form with leather-wrapped barrel and brass fittings, the telescope inscribed "FRANKLIN OSGOOD, REAR COMMODORE, NEW YORK YACHT CLUB." Franklin Osgood (1826-1888) was among the first American yachtsman to defend the America's Cup. He won in both 1870 with the yacht MAGIC and in 1871 with COLUMBIA.
