Harold Breul, son of artist Hugo Breul, was a Rhode Island painter and illustrator known for his expert portrayal of horses and equine sports. He attended the Rhode Island School of Design and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, winning a Cresson Scholarship that enabled him to travel in Europe. During World War I Breul was an ambulance driver in France. After the war he was an art director of an advertising agency in New York. He was a contributing artist to the Sportsman's Gallery of Art and Crossroads of Art, both in New York. His work appeared in numerous equine magazines in Britain and America, and illustrated an anthology of horse stories. He was a member of the U.S. Polo Association, Squadron A, and a member of the Providence Art Club and the American Water Color Society.
