Ruth Eaton Peabody was born in Highland Park, Illinois in 1898. Peabody first studied sculpture at the Art Institute of Chicago. Moving to Laguna Beach in 1924 with her mother, Elanor Colburn, she executed sculpture commissions in the form of fountains and memorial plaques. Upon establishing a studio she taught privately as well as at Laguna Beach High School. She was commissioned to do the portrait medallion of Anna A. Hills for the Laguna Beach Art Association, the drinking fountain outside the Laguna Art Museum as well as fountains for the Laguna Beach Humane Society. Her mother taught her to paint and early in her career, she produced many portraits and representational subject paintings. Peabody painted abstracts in the 1940's and later in her career she painted garden and flower subjects. Ruth Peabody died in Laguna Beach on October 22, 1966.
