(early 20th c.) Born in Northville, Michigan, Exene Reed Meyersahm was one of the talented still life artists who flourished in Providence in the early part of the twentieth century. She studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and with Charles Hawthorne in Provincetown. She was an active member of the Providence Art Club and also belonged to the National Art Club and the Springfield Art League. An award in her name exists at the Rhode Island Watercolor Society. Though not as familiar to modern audiences, she was a talented artist whose skill matched those of many of her better-known male counterparts. Her realistic and nuanced floral paintings show a technical skill and sensitivity to color and composition that place her work on a level with the better-known floral painters of her era.
