James Craig Nicoll

A student of the prominent marine painter Mauritz De Haas, James Craig Nicoll was celebrated for the crisp coastal scenes that he executed along the New England seaboard. He exhibited widely, showing his work at the National Academy of Design, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Boston Art Club, as well as the Chicago 1983 Columbian Exhibition, the Paris Exposition of 1889, and the St. Louis Exposition of 1904. He won medals from such institutions as the American Artist's Association, the New Orleans Exposition, and the Atlanta Expo. Nicoll's work can be seen at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Brooklyn Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
