This exhibition presents an opportunity to view paintings from a vibrant period of artistic achievement. Works by Picasso, Hans Arp, Franz Kline, Edward Weston, Helen Frankenthaler, and others chart a course from cubism through surrealism, abstract expressionism, minimalism, postmodernism, and beyond. Surfing the Century represents the last chance to view the UMMA collection of 20th-century art prior to renovations and the museum’s reopening in 2008.
