This pair of elegant mahogany side chairs epitomizes the graceful carving that is quintessential Chippendale rococo. Each chair’s slender upholstered backrest has a shaped top rail, which is mirrored by the form of its generous serpentine-fronted seat. The foliate-carved seat rails and apron reference the popular “French Chair” designs of the period, and the elegant cabriole legs and scroll feet bring the chair gently to the floor.

Such subtle and elegant attributes give these chairs an interesting dimensionality when approached from all directions—an important aspect for chair collectors of any period.
