These chairs are in exceptional condition and strike a wonderful balance between form and ornament. Sets of English carved walnut chairs are especially rare. This set was acquired from a private American collection.
Of very fine color, each chair features a shaped back exuberantly carved with C-scrolls, coquillage, and acanthus foliage with a pendant tassel centered above an open heart. The cabriole legs are carved with acanthus knees flanked by rosettes, terminating in claw-and-ball feet. The chairs retain their original seat frames, contributing to their rarity.
